TOOLING e-TALES
3-D CNC, Inc.
Welcome to the May edition of the 3-D CNC, Inc. Tooling e-Tales Newsletter. It is our intention to keep you informed on what’s happening at 3-D CNC, Inc. by sending you this brief monthly newsletter. The information is intended to be an insightful and helpful update on the current status of 3-D CNC, Inc., our employees, and our direction for growth.
Thank you in advance for taking the time to keep informed about our company.
For any of you that have toured our facility, you may have noticed our workcenter job dispatch reports located in each manufacturing area throughout our shop. Utilizing our JobBoss manufacturing software system, job data is collected from our Microsoft SQL database and organized on supplemental dispatch reports according to job operation start date. The dispatch report is an aide to operators to help them determine if they are working on the correct job. This ultimately helps 3-D CNC, Inc. maintain a high on-time delivery percentage with our customers.
Due to the dynamics of our business, dispatch reports are updated several times per day and distributed to each manufacturing workcenter area. This created extra work for our scheduler and wasted reams of paper. In addition, schedules will often change before the new reports are distributed. These two issues helped motivate Randy Dague, co-owner of 3-D CNC, Inc., to develop a new paperless, realtime workcenter job dispatch system unique to 3-D CNC, Inc.. The system is available on computer workstations located at each of our manufacturing workcenter areas. By the press of a button, the operator will now get instant, real-time job dispatch data.
The new system eliminates the need for updated workcenter job dispatch paper reports, makes scheduling more efficient, and helps give our operators more ownership in meeting daily manufacturing schedules.
Quick-Turn Savior
One of the strengths of 3-D CNC, Inc. is our ability to react and perform quick-turn manufacturing requests from our customers. A recent example of how well we can perform to these challenging requests is described as follows:
At 12:30pm on a recent Wednesday afternoon, the phone rang from a customer who builds grinding machines located in the eastern United States. The customer was in dire need of a custom made carbide bushing. They had a customer coming in the next day and needed the custom made bushing by 8:00am to demonstrate a machine for a possible sale. The bushing required three manufacturing operations, inspection, and packaging.
In order to get the part on a UPS truck for shipping, it had to be complete and ready to ship by 3:30pm that same afternoon. No easy task. With the help of a project leader, shop lead, and our scheduler, the part whipped through the shop without a hitch and made the UPS truck with only a few seconds to spare. Our customer received the custom bushing the next morning and was able to perform the machine demonstration as planned. Nice work to all involved.
Established in 1989, the month of May marks the 21st year of business for 3-D CNC, Inc.
Happy Birthday 3-D CNC!!!
